Ed Rec. Vol 3 - Review - Ed Banger strikes again!

Ed Banger will release its fresh compilation Ed Rec. Vol 3 filled with fat rock punk trash electro beats, officially on May 26th. Still a long way to go (unless you know how to sniff the internet), so here goes the review. You can disagree, I don't mind.

MR. OIZO - Ed Rec Vol.3 - © 2008 Ed Banger Records

01. Mr. Oizo - Yves
Just the intro.
02. Busy P - To Protect and Entertain (Feat. Murs)
US Hiphop vs Paris Electro: Californian Living Legends member Murs & Busy P. I have to admit I like the result even if it's hiphop. But, let's hope this is just a one-timer.
03. Mr. Flash - Over the Top
Funky rythm, very 80's (I see the the Night Rider in front of me), but maybe some remixes can do the job to make it a dance floor hit, which it isn't right now.
04. SebastiAn - Dog
Holy F*ck! This is hard. It's metal, including the screams, and then that beat...yes it's SebastiAn! This is where "Blood On Our Hands" - Death From Above 1979 vs Justice stopped. SebastiAn takes over, and although 'Motor' is "the" track (personally getting bored of it after a while)... I prefer the "Dog". Woef! Check his EP, coming out tomorrow, April 28th.
05. Uffie - Robot Oeuf
Like the beat, but Uffie ruins it a bit, nice samples in the background, and still a good dance floor track though. It just begs for a mix with balls. This is not a Spice Girls Best of.
06. Justice - Stress (Auto Remix)
From the beginning one of my favourite Justice album tracks, and here's the remix. Good atmosphere, nice built-up, sweet! (And 6min25!)
07. Mr. Oizo - Minuteman's Pulse
Mr. Oizo convinced me his can spin the decks, so I'll be polite. The only consistency in his sound: chaos, samples and repetition. This one has it all. But is it any good? Up to you.
08. DJ Mehdi - Pocket Piano
Thanks for bringing back the 80's, Mehdi. It's an instrumental song, this must be (or become) a tv theme!
09. Krazy Baldhead - No Cow, No Pow
This one is not going to make him famous I guess. An albumfiller to me, sorry.
10. DSL - Find Me in the World
Oh oh oh...hiphop...bad english...it sounds good without the lyrics.
11. Feadz - Back it Up (Feat. Spank Rock)
Yes! Feadz nails it! Nu rave...up-tempo...I like this! Feadz for Ed Rec President 2008 I tell ya!
12. So_Me - Decalcomania
Nice surprise! Who told me So Me is 'just' a designer? If he made this track all by himself, then he's my boy. This one will be in one of my sets soon! No doubt about it. Recommended!

Download the free Feadz Mini-Mix (sorry guys I won't post the real album)

Google for the album if you can't wait. But buy it afterwards!

New party concept: Mash_up, May 2nd, Versuz - Hasselt

Almost recovered from a succesful Polsslag...let me introduce to you a new party concept: Mash_Up

First edition: May, 2nd
Place to be: Versuz, Hasselt (again in "de Limburg" I know... ;-)
More info: www.M-U.be

Quite obvious, it's all about mash-ups, and with the help of my good friends The Dukes that shouldn't be a problem.

Before I forget, they also invited The Subs, Ed & Kim, and The Boilerboys to do the aftershow. (Or was it the other way around?) ;-)

Anyway, if you're going to Mash_Up (it's only 8 EUR in presale) don't forget to come early, 'cause The Dukes will get the party started at 9pm!

Polsslag 2008, the lazy review

April 19th, Grenslandhallen, Hasselt = 12.000 party people at Polsslag

As my internet provider cut off my internet connection last week (guess I didn't pay my bills in time, but that's another story), I wasn't able to post all week. [grrrrr]
Guess my next remix is going to be filled with rage and anger ;-) like the Soda&Suds RATM-mix.

Luckily, my man Rave Grohl still has his (Belgacom) ADSL connection, a decent phone to shoot some low-quality videos, and if he's not ripping out trees in the garden, he must be mixing some music or posting on his blog(s). So check his Polsslag review for details & videos Rave Grohl's view on Polsslag

Just my opinion on the Polsslag line-up (Only Boiler & Dance Hall, the rest is not my cup of tea)

Bloody Beetroots made the Boiler hall bounce + Goose selected Bloody Beetroots ("Everybody") as their best remix. (StuBru's disturbed interview at Polsslag: incl. Goose, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize, Bloody Beetroots

Dr. Lektroluv has a completely new set, can't wait for the next compilation cd! Anyone has a setlist of that show?

MSTRKRFT = still a guarantee for a good party (heavy sh*t!)

DJ Mehdi was OK, not impressive and started off too slow on Polsslag, anyway, it is Feadz (without Uffie) that has been tipped as the new Ed Banger star for 2008.

Boys Noize...I was going to say I didn't like it and left before the end of the show. But...I'm such a fan of his work that I play it all the time, at home, at work, in the car, on the iPod...guess I was a little bit dissappointed that I didn't hear (impressive) new stuff. But make no mistake about it, Boys Noize is a top producer!

Finally Erol Alkan: only saw 45 min of his set (my feet were killing me, even without high heels! ;-) But he's truly a must-see DJ. The man has got the skills, builds great sets with fresh tracks, and he's as wacko as Michael Jackson! And we all once liked Michael Jackson. Admit it!

Guess who spreads his love better than anyone else?

Should you have any doubts...it's Dr. Lektroluv...pumping his electro love into your veins!

Red Zebra - needed some fine tuning

The Red Zebra rework needed some fine-tuning. This should do it.

(Zshare/MP3/320kbs)

Should you re-post, spread or play it, let me know ;-)

The "No No Saturday" in a mixshell

No, I did not participate to the contest. A competition where it is impossible to reach the mixer because he is built & locked in a travel case? What kind of a competition is that? Luckily I only drove about 180 kms, got a t-shirt and 1 beer + a promo bag I forgot. Guess the promotor was a little bit too busy giving his attention to some blonde bimbo who I almost had to bitch slap because she was looking down on my gear and touching it (lesson 1: don't touch other people's gear without asking, things like that can get you killed).

I talked a while with DJ Nicx (representing Bree/Limburg) & had a chat with local hero lo Renz (sorry I disconnected your turntable, man!) :-), both nice guys, and drove back home. Disappointed off course.

But it's not over yet. In the car I received 2 text messages "Petrol Sold Out tonite!" and "Help! Without a presale ticket you can't get in! :-("
F*ck! Hell! There goes plan B.

Conclusion: No afterparty with Shameboy and Dr. Lektroluv...and still 75 km to go. I can't exactly remember how many times I yelled the F-word that night. Thank God I was alone.

Here's a mix with a vengeance...the Unreleased Beats & Bites Show. In fact it's just a sample of the selection I made. But have a taste anyway. (By the way, it's my first official remix with the brand new UC-33e I got from my friends. It's a hell of a machine, thanx again!)

Download the
"Unreleased Beats & Bites show" (28min/63MB/MP3)

PS: there's already an urban legend that says that De Kreuners sabotaged my set yesterday night, because they were afraid nobody would come to their concert... ;-)

Overdrive with Les Petits Pilous & Partyharders!

Another wild night with the electro trash scene yesterday in Antwerp where Overdrive invited a cool party crew:

Shadow Dancer (UK) both Boys Noize Records, and
Congorock (IT),

"De Cinema" is the place to be for student parties, and nowadays has a lot of success on Saturday with hiphop/RnB nights. But yesterday, none of that shit. Instead, a wild bunch of electro kids on the dance floor, sexy trashy ladies in those typical Banger outfits shaking their *ssses, funky boys in retro style wearing the white -old skool- sneakers...I love that, it's the new fluo 80s!

Les Petits Pilous played a far better set than at Make-Up Club several weeks ago, and were partying along with the rest of us after the show.

Timo & I had the honor to meet & party with Mon Colonel, 2 Shy, Olivier and the rest of the Partyharders. See you soon guys!
Can't wait for the official photos...
...they drove back to Liège the same morning (at 6am)...'cause Busy P is playing there tonite. Not a bad party weekend.

In Antwerp, I expect a filled Petrol tonite with the Shameboy release party & a visit of Dr. Lektroluv. So let's stay in Antwerp for a change!

Next week: Polsslag, 19 April - www.polsslag.be

Thanks to the bloggers spreading the love!

Just a quick post to show some respect to some bloggers putting the word out.

Stephanoski Parisiani - he just posted his mixset "I can't mix Vol. 26"...and started his set with the "Phantom Trash Out Mix" of Red Zebras "I Can't Live In A Living Room". A nice surprise!
Check his set right here: "I can't mix Vol. 26"
The place to be: http://stephanoskiparisiani.wordpress.com/

Boskabout: the guy promoted my last "Saturday Night Session Vol. 3" on his blog. Thanks for spreading the love, man! And he's got more than music to talk about, certainly worth to take a look: http://boskabout.blogspot.com/

Rock Waregem, selecting Phantom for Beats & Bites...must be thanks to you, bloggers ;-)
Check out the Beats & Bites line-up for this weekend!

This certainly gives me the motivation to keep on posting - so THANK YOU! And don't stop doing what you're doing! ;-)

The best things were made in 1978: Red Zebra & Phantom

So I was checking the line-up of Rock Waregem (the real festival, not Beats & Bites ;-) when I noticed Red Zebra...I didn't even know these guys were still alive & kicking. Respect!

And coincidence or not...I just re-organised my living room last week.
Can you feel where we're heading?

Yes! Another on-the-fly "Trashed!". Download the remix right here!

Smoking with SebastiAn @ Café Capital, Antwerp

Saturday night April 5th, Antwerp @ Capital: SebastiAn rocks the place.

It's no secret that SebastiAn is no doubt the most talented DJ of the Ed Banger crew. We know that, when we saw him show off at Les Transardentes, earlier this year, leaving Brodinski and Erol way behind. So yes, when we entered the club, SebastiaAn was already spinning his hits (guess we missed half an hour). And indeed, the club was on fire, everybody in the mood, no doubt about that.

SebastiAn at Café Capital

But still one remark: how hard can it be for a talented DJ to play the same tracks all over again and again and again. I personally like the Banger stuff, that trashy French electro sound. But if you hear the same tracks at Pukkelpop 2007, 6 months later again, and then yesterday in Antwerp...well, that makes me a bit sad. There are so many amazing tracks out there.

Enough said, this is SebastiAn...at 2:28..you'll hear "Phantom part II" :-)

So SebastiAn,next time we meet (Dour/Pukkelpop), bring us a new set, please. Something fresh and raw. There was not one song I didn't recognize all night. If Erol Alkan spins the decks, I feel like a noob 'cause his sets are fresh as pistolets on a Sunday morning (which I had to go get myself, thank you very much).

http://www.myspace.com/0sebastian0
But don't get me wrong...he's still a DJ superhero! ;-)

Phantom & Friends got old & dirty @ Vettige Swa

Thanks for your presence & presents! I don't remember exactly what happened between 3 & 6 am, but I'm sure it must have been a blast. :-)

A big shout out to The Dukes for playin' the dirty tracks we like, and sorry for those damn volume limiters. If it were up to me, we'd all be deaf by now, you know that.

Gracias to my friends from the record company - you all came a long way to see me, I won't forget that. Pierrot! I 'm still having nightmares about your dear mask!

And who gave me those (small) bottles of Duvel? They accidently leaked in my trunk. Guess what my car smells like now?

Danke to the Germans...but I'm wondering why they still don't know about Boys Noize, Digitalism, Miss Kittin. Anyway, auf Wiederschnitzel! Hope you liked it!

Marriage proposals, masked superhero friends, and cheap (1/2 liters) Pampero-Sprite...not exactly your average bday, but what a hell of a night!

And last but not least...thanks for those fine bottles, a RATM reunion concert ticket and my brand-new UC-33 (yes the Surkin one!) You must have been reading my blog, how sweet! :-P.

I love you all! Never forget that!
