Off topic...but private and personal...and funny...years later.

I'm getting nervous. Only 2 days before my B-day party which reminds me that I made an agreement à la truth or dare...

in 2002...
She: "Tom, if you're not married when you're 30, and we have no strings attached...we will get married, right!?"
Me: "Deal!" (with big smile)

2 weeks later
She:"I think you are fucked in the head. You are full of shit, I never do anything right in your eyes, when I want to see you, you play hard to get. You're always trying to make me feel like shit, and it works. Well fuck it , I have had enough. You and I are not friends right now, you just punish me."

6 years later, we are still very good friends, nothing more nor less.

Conclusion: Chase your dreams before things get complicated!

Surkin, Son of Kavinsky!

Surkin - check my previous review- is the son of Kavinsky!
You know, Mr. "Testarossa Autodrive"? How come I missed that?

Should this be new intel for you too, check out the itv below.
The interview taken from Pedestrian TV is a good one.
Surkin talks about how he lost his original Reason-file of his monster track "Ghetto Obsession", his opinion on file sharing, and that he's is a kid of the internet generation...

See more videos at Pedestrian.tv

...I like these kids if they deliver, like Surkin does.

Etienne de Crécy @ Petrol, After-Party "Linkeroever"

"Linkeroever", the debut of Pieter van Hees. Certainly a good start for a promising film director. But this ain't a film blog. Linkeroever on IMDB

Back to business...back to the after-party at Petrol with an interesting line-up:
Balkan Beatz (if you think that 80s is "wrong", check out these guys! The 'Kings of Going Fout'!)
Etienne de Crécy
Fredo & Thang with nice sets (Pre-Etienne: 80s! vs After-Etienne: smooth electro)

Let's focus on Etienne. He is a classic. But, he keeps his sets up-to-date, mixed with a lot of variation, keeping the kids dancing (you feel me? :-).

Some bomb tracks à la "My People" - D.I.M. on the decks and you know it's going to be a hell of a party.(check track 3 - my previous Saturday Night Mix or listen to the live video at Petrolmixset)

Thank you, Etienne, you were great. But who ordered the hangover...help!? Thank God it's Friday... ;-)

Vinyl is still alive...

Some people ask me what I think of the "real" vinyl DJs. No wait. Reverse. Some people instantly judge digital laptop DJs, I prefer to use the word "controllerist" anyway. Well, I do blame vinyl boys & girls the lack of creativity, but I don't envy them, running around with kilos of vinyl.
Whatever, it's not a crusade, it's all about the music.
To set something straight with some of you...I have nothing against vinyl DJs......if they play like this :-)

Check them out @ Petrol, Antwerp on April, 30th.

Saturdays will never be the same...set #3

Indeed, a lonely saturday evening...but full of inspiration to twist knobs & sliders on the Korg microKontrol (that was like months! ago). Note: those who like my previous Saturday Night Sessions will possibly be shocked by the new Saturday Night...'cause it is harder, better, faster, stronger (even without Daft Punk). ;-)

Les Petits Pilous @ Make-Up Club, Gent

Friday, March 7th 2008 - Make-Up Club

Another Fluokids duo from la France, Les Petits Pilous conquered the Make-Up Club (Gent) yesterday night. Currently on Boys Noize Records and that's exactly what they play. Loads of Boys Noize & D.I.M., a little hometown Soulwax & Goose, flavoured with some Ed Banger tracks. Good enough for...only 5 EUR entrance. (2.5 EUR/beer)

Ingredients for the party:
- 1 MacBook
- 2 Midi Controllers (M-Audio has a fine business @ Boys Noize Rec.)
° the Evolution U-Control 33 (like Surkin, Boys Noise,...)
° the Evolution MK-425C
(unofficial ingredient: sexy electropunk people)

Write it down: the U-Control 33 is definitely on my wishlist. Very compact, lots of knobs, good price/quality + very easy to transport.

Anyway, I was not really impressed by their performance, due to the impressive Surkin show-off a week earlier I guess. 'Cause that guy really used his machine. LPP have quite a pumping track selection, but I didn't notice any big surprises, no tricks. But OK, let's give em some credit, as I like their own stuff (on their Myspace) very much.

Surkin, a hyperkinetic controllerism genius!

Surkin, that young kid from the previous post, remember? He did what he was supposed to do at Petrol (Antwerp) yesterday: rock the party. Impressive performance with his Evolution U-Control 33 and a MacBook. Can't believe how dull the pre- and aftershow was compared to his set. But hey, the other DJs play CDs :-) it's almost old skool by now. ;-)

He showed off some tricks with the controller. Glad I could sneak peak into the DJ booth. I'll be putting my bass on sliders too from now on.

What else do you need? Bouncing tracks, energy and inspiration?
Well, this kid has it all...plus...he made me happy with one specific song:
Let Me Back Up - Don Rimini from the Absolutely Rad EP
.
Check it on Myspace Don Rimini
I was preparing that song for a new mixset, but he's already bringing it out to the people.

Surkin = Recommended by PhantomByNight!

Check his myspace for dates near you.
